Colfosco (Calfosch in Ladin, Kolfuschg in German) lies at 1.645 m above sea level, making it the highest village of Alta Badia
Traits, services and history of Colfosco
The village lies at the foot of the Sella Group, from which the four Ladin valleys branch out (Val Badia, Gherdëina / Val Gardena, Fascia / Val di Fassa, Fodom / Livinallongo, plus Cortina d'Ampezzo). To the north the Sassongher mountain rises from the edge of the Puez-Geisler Nature Park. Colfosco is nestled between the Gardena pass, one of the most famous in the Dolomites, and Corvara, Alta Badia's glamorous heart, full of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.
In Colfosco you will find the animal park and the adventure park; two destinations loved by children, families and all those who are open to new and exciting experiences.
The first mention of Colfosco goes back to 1153, while most of its current hamlets already appear in 1296, in the first document recording all existing farmsteads of Val Badia. The name Calfosch comes from col fusch (collis fuscus), which in ancient Ladin meant a hill lying in the shade of the mountain.
